The average Gippsland Dairy Farmer milking 235 cows and producing 100,000 kgMS will be approximately $70,000 better off by Christmas this year when compared with the MG opening price from the 2009/10 season.
The current favourable grain prices and strong autumn and winter conditions will no doubt lead to further increases in milk production, further improving farmers positions by the middle of the season.
This point for many will reflect the end of two years of extremely tight trading conditions on farm since the milk price step down of December 2008.
